The unsettling discovery unfolded Saturday afternoon at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Around 2:15 p.m., a hospital unit coordinator came across a black Honda Civic parked directly outside the emergency room entrance. Inside, they found the body of 27-year-old Declan Perry, wrapped tightly in duct-taped blankets. Perry was unresponsive, and despite the location, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors Report Suspicious Activity Earlier That Day
Investigators soon learned that Perry’s neighbors in Portland, Maine, had witnessed unusual behavior just hours before his body was discovered. Witnesses told police they saw a man leaving Perry’s residence while carrying a “large, heavy blanket.” The same blanket, neighbors said, appeared to be placed into the black Honda Civic later found at the hospital. Authorities now believe this individual played a direct role in transporting Perry’s body across state lines.
Investigators Zero In on Person of Interest
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Monday that they are investigating a man seen carrying the blanket as a person of interest. Officials believe the man knew Perry personally, though they have not yet revealed the nature of their relationship. The DA’s office has described the case as “active and ongoing” and emphasized that they are pursuing multiple leads to piece together what happened in the hours before Perry’s death.
Search Conducted at Perry’s Apartment
As part of the investigation, law enforcement obtained a warrant to search Perry’s apartment in Portland, Maine. According to authorities, several items of evidence were seized during the search. Officials have not disclosed what was taken, but the material is now being reviewed for possible links to Perry’s death and the person of interest.
Autopsy Still Pending
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet released the official cause or manner of death. Toxicology and further examination are underway to determine whether Perry was killed before being transported to Massachusetts or if other circumstances contributed to his death.
A Case Spanning Two States
The strange circumstances, spanning over two hours of travel between Maine and Massachusetts, have left investigators with complex questions. How Perry’s body ended up in Weymouth, and why it was left at the hospital, remain central to the case. Authorities have not yet released information about possible motives or additional suspects, but they continue to urge the public to come forward with any tips.
